Enrolment options

This course will be a panel discussion with three speakers (Grace Wei, Nathalie Gendron and Mira Puri (moderator)) who have moved their career from academia to other sectors. The first part of the session will be discussion with the panelists who will outline their career paths and reflections on their experiences. We will leave time for questions and discussion from trainees and other participants. 

The sectors covered by the speakers are:

•Government (CIHR)- Nathalie
•Research Institute Program and Strategic Administration- Nathalie
•Industry/Start-up/Biotechnology- Grace
•Non-profit /Science Philanthropy- Mira

The discussion questions for the panelists are: 

•What were your previous academic and non-academic roles?
•What motivated you to move away from academia?
•What were some of the psychological and practical challenges to making this shift?
•What does a typical day look like?
•How do you use your academic skills in your current role?
•What are the other important skills and values that you bring to your job now?
•What advice do you have for anyone interested in pursuing the role(s) you have had?
•What trends are you seeing in academia-adjacent areas, including in industry?
